CBI conducts raids at the residences of Mira Halder and Arjun Sarkar

In the wake of the arrest of Ayan Sheel, a prime accused in the Municipal Corporation's appointment corruption case, a widening net of investigation has implicated several Municipal Corporations in the state, including Diamond Harbor Municipal Corporation.

On Monday morning, Central Investigation Agency (CBI) officers descended upon the South 24th Division Diamond Harbor Municipality to delve into the recruitment scandal that has rocked the region. The initial phase of the operation saw CBI officials conducting a meticulous search at the residence of Mira Halder, former Chairman of Diamond Harbor Municipality, as part of their efforts to uncover the extent of corruption within the Municipal Corporation's appointment process.

 Investigation sources have disclosed that back in 2016, 16 individuals secured employment within Diamond Harbor Municipality, allegedly under the influence of Ayan Sheel's company.

Furthermore, the investigative dragnet extended to the former chairman of Uluberia Municipality, Arjun Sarkar, who held the position from 2018 to 2021. Sarkar's residence was raided, and he is currently undergoing interrogation within his premises. Central forces have been deployed outside his residence, and simultaneous searches have commenced within Uluberia Municipality, underscoring the gravity of the recruitment corruption case that has come to light.
